Soul Blind anuncia nuevo LP ‘Red Sky Mourning’ para Closed Casket Activities
Es un nuevo día para Soul Blind, y con el amanecer llega Red Sky Mourning, su segundo LP y debut para Closed Casket Activities, que se lanzará el 10 de octubre de 2025. No solo es el nuevo lanzamiento de la banda de Hudson Valley, Nueva York, en una nueva sede, sino que también es una instantánea de una banda en pleno crecimiento exponencial, musical, artístico y, sobre todo, en su madurez. Cuando los favoritos del hard rock alternativo arrasaron en el mundo y los escenarios tras su aclamado y popular debut de 2022, Feel It All Around, los fans disfrutaron enormemente de la versión de la banda del rock alternativo de los 90. Ahora, con un nuevo sonido y una nueva vida, Soul Blind podría ser completamente irreconocible. Eso es hasta que esa inconfundible cortina de guitarras comienza a envolverlos como magma caliente fundido, junto con melodías subterráneas que te aprietan la garganta y te impiden soltarlos. En el mejor sentido, por supuesto.
El primer adelanto del nuevo reinado de Soul Blind comienza con «Hide Your Evil», el primer sencillo de la banda y el primer tema compuesto para el disco justo después de firmar con Closed Casket. Comienza con un tono potente antes de convertirse en un ariete de guitarras intermitentes y una psicodelia vibrante, «Hide Your Evil» evoca a Helmet, Deftones (de la época de Adrenaline/Around the Fur) y Quicksand, entre muchos otros, en su sensacional riff de alta tensión. Es el tipo de canción que se puede cantar con dulzura o con un toque de mosh demasiado vigoroso, que es exactamente como les gusta. «Hay dos armónicos que dan inicio a la canción que Finn ha estado tocando una y otra vez sin intención de que realmente se convierta en algo», dice el guitarrista Justin Sarica. Toda la canción gira en torno a un riff, y colectivamente estábamos bastante cabreados y enojados, así que lo que salió fue muy duro y muy rápido. Creo que esta canción también es lo más cercano a nuestro material anterior, pero es emblemática de la vibra que intentamos capturar con el disco: ira combinada con pesadez, a la vez que se abre a estas secciones melódicas y bonitas.
Red Sky Mourning es el esperado segundo trabajo de Soul Blind: diez temas de 35 minutos de duración, con un gran reto por delante: el aclamado LP Feel it All Around. Para esta ocasión, Soul Blind contó con Jon Markson y Adam Cichocki para capturar el sonido que cultivaron tras los extensos chasquidos del odómetro que acompañaron a su anterior trabajo. «Hicimos muchas giras con ‘Feel it All Around’ y queríamos capturar cómo sonábamos en vivo, y creo que esto se acerca mucho más a eso», admite el bajista y vocalista Cen. «La gente se acercaba a nosotros después de un concierto y nos decía lo pesado que sonaba, así que eso era muy importante: capturar esa energía. Jon y Adam encajaron a la perfección con nosotros y se nota en el disco».
Para aprovechar la fuerza de su concierto, Soul Blind se reunió en Animal Farm en Flemington, Nueva Jersey, durante un mes, un espacio que incubó grabaciones de Drug Church, Drain, KOYO y muchos otros. Allí, la banda exploró su amor por Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Melvins, Killing Joke de mediados y finales de la era, The Cure y todo tipo de rock alternativo de principios de los 90, reduciéndolos a una esencia y pasándolos por el tamiz hardcore y DIY de Soul Blind. La naturaleza contenida de las sesiones dio como resultado un viaje reflexivo y emocional a través del dolor, el aislamiento y la oscuridad hasta que la redención y la esperanza se encontraron con la llegada del sol naciente.
Soul Blind, formado en 2018, ha sido un esfuerzo colaborativo musicalmente hablando, y el nuevo álbum no fue la excepción, con los cuatro miembros contribuyendo a la composición. Pero todos pasamos por momentos difíciles, ya sea mi sobriedad inicial, ayudar a mi pareja a sobrellevar la pérdida de un ser querido o comprender nuestros propios pensamientos y permitirnos ser vulnerables. Todo eso se refleja en ‘Red Sky Mourning’ y creo que esa honestidad brilla con luz propia.

It’s a new day for Soul Blind, and with the crack of dawn comes Red Sky Mourning, their second LP and debut for Closed Casket Activities due on October 10, 2025. Not only is this the Hudson Valley, NY-based band’s new release at a new home, it’s a snapshot of a band during exponential growth– musically, artistically and most importantly in maturity. When the alt-hard rock favorites took the world, and live stages, by storm in the wake of their critically loved and popular 2022 debut Feel It All Around, fans cherished the band’s take on 90s alternative in droves. Now with a new sound and a new lease on life, Soul Blind might be utterly unrecognizable from their previous selves. That is until that unmistakable curtain of guitars starts to engulf like molten hot magma, coupled with subterranean melodies that apply a white-knuckle grip around the throat and don’t let go. In the best way, naturally.
The first taste of Soul Blind’s new reign starts with “Hide Your Evil,” the band’s lead off single and the first track written for the record right after signing with Closed Casket. Opening with a ringing tone before evolving into a battering ram of stop-start guitars and swirling psychedelia, “Hide Your Evil” channels Helmet, Adrenaline/Around the Fur-era Deftones, and Quicksand among many others in its high-tension clobber. It’s the kind of song that can be sung sweetly or moshed to vigorously, which is exactly how they like it. “There are these two harmonics that start out the song that Finn has been playing over and over again with no intention of it really becoming something,” says guitarist Justin Sarica. «The whole song is around this one riff and collectively we were pretty pissed off and angry, so what came out was very hard and very fast. I think this song is also the closest thing to our previous stuff but is emblematic of the vibe we’re trying to catch with the record– anger coupled with heaviness while simultaneously opening up to these melodic and pretty sections.”

Red Sky Mourning is Soul Blind’s highly anticipated sophomore effort, ten tracks spanning 35 minutes with big shoes to fill– the much loved Feel it All Around LP. And for this go around, Soul Blind enlisted Jon Markson and Adam Cichocki to capture the sound they cultivated after the extensive odometer clicks that came with the last offering. “We toured a lot off of ‘Feel it All Around’ and wanted to capture how we sounded live– and I think this is definitely closer to that,” admits bassist/vocalist Cen. ”People would come up to us after a show and tell us how heavy it sounded, so that was really important– capturing that energy. Jon and Adam were a great fit for us and it shows on the record.”
To harness the power of their live show, Soul Blind congregated at Animal Farm in Flemington, NJ for a month, a space that incubated recordings by Drug Church, Drain, KOYO and countless others. There the band explored their love for Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Melvins, mid to late-era Killing Joke, The Cure and all manner of early 90s alternative rock, boiling them down to an essence and passing them through Soul Blind’s hardcore and DIY-inflected sieve. The contained nature of the sessions yielded results that are a pensive, emotional journey through pain, isolation and darkness until eventual redemption and hope could be found with the rising sun.
Formed in 2018, Soul Blind has been a collaborative effort musically speaking, and the new album proved no different, with all four members contributing to the songwriting. The collective result is a magnifying glass into the lives of four discrete individuals coming to terms with their own humanity, growing and progressing as individuals. “When you’re in a band like Soul Blind, and it’s four people who are each songwriters, I really don’t think I would have been able to contribute what I did if I hadn’t gotten sober,” recalls guitarist Finn Lovell. “And my new sobriety definitely affected the record in several different ways. But we all individually had turmoil– whether it was my budding sobriety, helping a partner grieve the loss of a loved one, or understanding our own thoughts and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. All of it shows on ‘Red Sky Mourning’ and I think that honesty shines brightly.”
